Antisamos lies near the port of Sami, just 22 km from Argostoli, and is considered one of the island’s prettiest beaches. The route from Sami to the beach is particularly enchanting as it crosses one of the greenest parts of the island with towering pine trees. Many visitors stop at a plateau on route to take commemorative photographs, while the view from Agrilion Monastery to the beach is also impressive. Antisamos beach is mostly pebbly with stretches of finer pebbles and white sand. It is set among densely wooded hills whose Cypress trees reach almost to the shore, while its deep blue and crystal clear waters are bound to impress even the most jaded travellers. In the past few years Antisamos has become an organized beach, with a snack bar, sunbeds, umbrellas and water sports. It is annually awarded the blue flag for its cleanliness and offers ample parking space in a specially designated area. Every summer this once quiet spot is inundated with countless tourists and locals who come from both near and far to visit this charming beach. Part of this recent popularity is due to the movie “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”, in which Antisamos features in many scenes and reveals the beauty of the Kefalonian landscape.
